The HMT General kit was developed for Osumex as a simple to use at home test kit for the presence of the above toxic heavy metals.  It uses chemical reagents that will cause a colour change in the test solution with a ring/band just below the surface if any of the above toxic heavy metals are present.

The chemicals used are bio-degradable and do not contaminate the environment when properly disposed off after use.  The reagents contains oils that pose no danger to the user if contact is made.  However, as with most chemical substances, if contact is made with the eye or mouth, the user is to wash the eye and or rinse the mouth with water and then to immediately contact the user's doctor or professional health care provider.

The HMT General kit is suitable for testing any clear liquid medium such as saliva, urine, tap water, ground water, breast milk, etc.  Other substances such as fish, soil, paint, etc can also be tested and if you wish to do that, please contact us and we can provide clear instructions on how to prepare the sample for testing.

Contents of the HMT General kit (in a polybag):

• 1 test tube with a white cap;
• 1 "leak-proof" vial containing the test reagents in solution;
• 1 pipette;
• 1 instruction sheet;

Prepare the reagent solution for testing

1. Remove white cap from the test tube;
2. Empty reagent solution in vial into the test tube;
3. Cap the test tube with the white cap firmly;
4. Turn the test tube upside down (white cap pointing towards the ground) and shake until the reagent solution turns green;
5. The reagent solution is ready to test the sample solution (saliva, urine, water, etc);

Conducting the test

1. Use the pipette to transfer the sample solution (saliva, urine, water, etc.) into the test tube with the green test solution until it is about 2/3 full;
2. Close the test tube with the white cap and shake vigorously;
3. Stand the test tube on the white cap for about 2-3 minutes to allow colour change;
4. Observe a ring or band just below the surface of the solution in the test tube to determine the result of the test;

If testing urine, the results may take a little longer and you may not see a colour change for up to 5 minutes or more

Reading the results of the test

• If the band or ring remains green (see 1st pic below), there is no heavy metals present in the sample solution;
• If the band or ring is gray in colour, then there is a combination of the above metals present to a low degree;
• If the band or ring is bluishpurple/brown to purple, it indicate the presence of copper and possibly cobalt;
• If the band or ring is beige, it indicate the presence of cadmium and possibly nickel;
• If the band or ring is orange, it indicate the presence of mercury, usually when testing saliva or breast milk, etc
• If the bank or ring is pink to red, it indicate the presence of zinc and lead;

The result will deteriorate to a yellow-orange colour after 30 minutes and should be ignored.

If saliva is tested, there should only be an orange colour to show the presence of mercury leaked from amalgam dental fillings.

The 2nd pic has several tests with different colour bands or rings to indicate the type of heavy metals present provided there is only the particular metal present.  When more than one metal is present, the colour is not as easy to determine which metal it is due to "masking" and intereference.
