Hulled barley is simply the human race's best kept secret. It's delicious, healthful, easy to prepare (see note below), easy on the planet, oh... and this... more...

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Organic Hulled Barley - From USA 1 lb. Clear Bag

Hulled Barley is the most nutritious form of barley with only the outermost hull removed. With its bran still intact it is nutrient dense and high in fiber. It's full of important trace minerals like iron and contains a range of B vitamins. Although the cooking time is longer than for other types of barley, the nutritional benefits are worth the effort. The added bonus is its distinct nutty flavor and brownish color. Barley's been feeding humans for millennia, a favourite grain of the ancient Egyptians, the Roman gladiators, and the seafaring Vikings. Christopher Columbus brought barley to North America from Europe in 1493 and it has been cultivated here ever since. It's most often used in soups and stews, where it serves as both a puffy grain and a thickener, but it also makes a nice side dish or salad.

Preperation Soak barley 6 hours or longer. Bring 1 cup of Barley to 3 cups of water to a boil add a pinch of sea salt and cook for 50 minutes, or cook for 1 hour 15 mniutes without soaking.
