Hulled barley is simply the human race's best kept secret. It's delicious, healthful, easy to prepare (see note below), easy on the planet, oh... and this hearty breakfast will set you back all of 12¢/day. Why wasn't I told about this stuff as a kid instead of Cocoa Puffs?
Note: I do this in my cubicle at work and hotel rooms. Soak barley overnight (drain and let stand a day if you want to start the sprouting process), pour 2 or 3 times the volume of boiling water (from a microwave or coffee maker) over it in a big ceramic mug to hold the heat. Steep for about an hour, drink the delicately flavored water (Google Barley Water) then eat the barley. Mix in wheat, oat groats, etc. thru soaking process and/or quick-cooking seeds like quinoa, teff and amaranth dry right before steeping for variety.

|I used to get Hulled Barley from my local Wild Oats grocery. Now acquired by Whole Foods, they no longer stock this outstanding product. Easy to prepare and packed with more flavor and protein than any other grain, I'll be happily purchasing it on-line along with other healthy products. Check out the facts at nutritiondata[dot]com|
